How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
It’s easy to breathe new life into your kitchen cabinets and units with our scrubbable, stain-resistant cabinet paint. Below are our step-by-step guides to painting kitchen cabinetry using our two toughest interior finishes: Flat Eggshell (low sheen) and Modern Eggshell (mid sheen).
New, Unpainted Wood
-
Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, or other contaminants
-
Lightly sand the surface to improve paint adhesion
-
Apply Farrow & Ball Wood Primer & Undercoat in the recommended tone* to any knotty or resinous areas
-
Apply one full coat of Farrow & Ball Wood Primer & Undercoat
-
Apply two coats of Flat Eggshell or Modern Eggshell, depending on the sheen chosen, allowing the recommended drying time between coats
Previously Painted Wood
-
Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from contaminants
-
Strip and sand any areas where paint is peeling or blistering
-
Feather the edges of any previous paint repairs
-
Lightly sand the entire surface to improve adhesion

-

MDF
Depending on how tightly bound the MDF fibres are, extra precautions may be required. If the fibres begin to rise during application, lightly sand between coats to achieve a smooth finish.
When sanding any surface prior to painting, keep dust to a minimum and wear a dust mask as a sensible precaution.

Lightly sand the edges to reduce paint absorption
